How do you open a sliding patio door?
Our sliding patio doors are designed to be easy to open but completely secure when shut. To open them, you just turn the handle (to release the closing mechanism) and slide the door open. The door sits on rollers, so it’s easy to use regardless of its size and weight.
With AGS, one of our expert installers will always show you how to use your newly-fitted door correctly and ensure that you are completely satisfied with it before they leave.
How wide is a two panel sliding glass door?
If you’re thinking of installing sliding doors, it’s important to consider how wide an opening you have to fill. Usefully, sliding doors don’t have any swinging doors that take up space, with the drawback that only one half of the door can open at a time. The standard size for a patio door is around 1.8m (6ft) across, which would give you an opening of 90cm (3ft) out to your garden. At AGS we can custom-make sliding glass doors to any dimensions you like — from making the most of a small opening, right up to a set of statement glass doors that take up a whole wall. What is a lift and slide patio door?
Lift and slide patio doors use a different mechanism to traditional sliding patio doors. Most sliding doors always stay on their sliding track, but a fully-closed lift and slide patio door “de-rails” when it’s fully closed. This provides a better seal, helping to prevent draughts. To open, you “lift and slide” — turn the handle and then lift the door slightly to place it back on the track. You can also lock the door in place at any point on the track – great for summer days and garden parties!
Are patio doors energy efficient?
The right patio doors can be extremely energy efficient; it all depends on the quality of the door. If you fit a double or triple-glazed door with a high-quality PVCu, timber or aluminium frame and a good seal then your patio doors should be highly energy efficient. At AGS, we manufacture and fit our patio doors ourselves to ensure they’re as energy efficient as possible. We select for A-rated glass with a low U-value; the lower its U-value, the less heat a window will allow to escape.
Are sliding patio doors easy to break into?
While sliding patio doors are mostly glass, at AGS we fit toughened glass as standard on all doors and windows below 800mm from floor height to give you even more security. We use sophisticated and secure locking mechanisms on all our exterior doors, helping you feel safe and comfortable in your home. How much does a patio door cost?
The cost of patio doors can vary widely depending on the material we make them out of, their size, and the type of glass you choose. As a general rule, aluminium costs more than PVCu, larger doors are more expensive and double glazing is cheaper (though less-energy efficient) than triple glazing. Whatever your preferences, we strive to make sure all of our products are of the highest quality and are properly, professionally fitted.
