How do you hang curtains in a bay or bow window?
Bay windows can make a beautiful design statement. However, hanging curtains in a bay window is a little more complicated than in a normal window. This being said, it can be easy if you use the right fitting.
For arc-shaped bow windows, you can get bendable curtain rods that work well. And for a three-section bay window, specialised curtain rods that allow the curtain to be pulled all the way around are very useful. These curtain hooks have small gaps, allowing them to easily pass through the curtain rod attachments.
Do bay or bow windows increase home value?
Both space and light are sought after qualities in new homes. Luckily, bay and bow windows add these features to your home, helping to increase your property’s value. While added square footage gives you scope to show off the space with a creative use, the extra light can make the whole room feel more airy, giving an illusion of even more space.
The added window space means the room will get more light, regardless of which direction the window is facing, and you’ll get a stunning 180-degree view from your property.
Although normal windows can be cheaper, bay or bow windows provide so many unique benefits and are often well worth the cost.
How many sides does a bay window have?
You’ll find that the classic bay window found in the late 19th and early 20th century houses in the UK has three sides. These are set away from the wall and are often in a trapezoid shape.
One window faces outwards, while the two others are at a 45-degree angle to the wall.
You might have seen another type of bay window – a box bay window. These windows form a rectangle shape away from the house and have side windows at a 95-degree angle. Some people prefer this type as it can be easier to fit furniture inside the space.
At AGS we can fit both classic bay windows and box bay windows. You can think about your needs and decide which kind you’d like in your home. Unsure? Chat to one of our experts.
What is the difference between a bow and a bay window?
While a bay window is made from three individual windows that meet at angles beyond the exterior of a wall, a bow window creates a graceful arc using an arrangement of four or more windows. They are usually wider than bay windows due to this curved effect. Both types of window have the benefit of adding space and light to your room.

Do bay and bow windows open?
Both bay and bow windows can really brighten up a room. Bay windows are often simpler in design than bow windows, with just three panels (usually all of these will be able to open).
Bow windows are usually smaller and thinner to create that curved effect. They will be able to open, but it might just be one or two window panea rather than every single one.
If you want to design your own bay or bow windows, you’ll be able to determine how your windows will open.
What can I put in a bay window?
Those that decide to get a bay window installed usually want to use the extra space.
You can simply fill the area with cushions to make a cosy reading nook, make a soft play area for your children, or deem it a quiet area for your pet. Alternatively, you can install custom seating to fit in the space – you might even be able to use the space underneath for storage. The possibilities don’t end here. Lots of people have used their bay windows as an area for their bookshelves, comfy armchairs, or as a stylish area for their plant collection.
