A beautiful orangery style roof is created with fewer bars, an internal pelmet, an external cornice and an extended eaves beam. The decorative cornice subtly hides the guttering and keeps the aesthetic of the conservatory. The internal insulated pelmet brings improved thermal performance and better lighting, there is also an option to incorporate spotlights or speakers into the design.

What is a lantern conservatory?
A lantern roof conservatory is a great way to add natural light to your home without having to commit to full glass. A lantern roof is a rectangular space in your ceiling that has glass panes in the middle that are pitched to emulate a roof shape. They can be used in an already-existing room in your house (as long as it has a flat roof), or you can use them as part of a sturdier conservatory extension which has a solid roof. A decorative cornice is used outside that hides the guttering and gives you a beautiful view of the sky, as well as filling your room with natural light – even on grey days!
Do roof lanterns lose heat?
Our double glazing will improve the thermal efficiency of your lantern roof conservatory, but you should be aware that it might lose slightly more heat than an insulated and tiled roof.
Triple-glazing in your roof lantern is a further option if you’re very determined to reduce your heating costs. This is also perfect for cold climates.
Internal insulated pelmets are in all of our roof lanterns to ensure heat loss is reduced as much as possible. If you’re still concerned, just remember, roof lanterns are one of the most energy-efficient ways to let natural light into your home.
Do roof lanterns let in more light?
Roof lanterns let in approximately three times more light than a standard window, so are a fantastic way to increase the amount of natural light in a room. With a roof lantern, you’ll only need to switch on your lights when the sun goes down.
If you’re concerned about the roof lantern letting in too much heat during the summer, there are slightly tinted glass types to reduce glare and options that can filter out UV to protect your furnishings.
How do you clean a roof lantern?
A long handle with a sponge on the end and warm soapy water should be enough to give your roof lantern a good clean. Simply brush away any debris or dirt stuck to the glass.
Our top tip is to clean your window when it’s cloudy outside as the sun causes glass to dry quickly and form streaks.
Not everyone wants to manually clean their roof lanterns, which is why we offer self-cleaning glass. Contact us today to discuss this low maintenance option further.
