Are uPVC doors better than wood?

uPVC doors are relatively easy to produce and are therefore one of the cheapest options on the market. Wooden doors require more precision and time to produce, which makes them a slightly pricier option.

UPVC doors are a secure option — they’re difficult to damage and come with secure modern locking mechanisms. They’re also very easy to maintain in comparison to wooden doors, requiring very little care or attention once they’ve been installed.

How long do uPVC doors last?

As uPVC is a type of plastic, our doors age slowly — an AGS door should last up to 30 or 40 years. Our uPVC doors are designed to last and shouldn’t excessively degrade through normal use.

You can extend the life of your uPVC door by keeping it well-cleaned and maintained. Swiftly fixing any damage to your door, oiling its hinges and ensuring the lock and door handle mechanisms run smoothly insures your uPVC door against needless damage.

UPVC doors are also easy to clean — just wipe them down at the first sign of marks or dirt.

Can you replace uPVC door seals?

uPVC door seals keep your front door weather-proof and functional. If you notice that a rubber strip has come away or even completely fallen off your door, you’ll want to replace your uPVC door seal, pronto.

Fortunately, this is fairly easy to do yourself. After ordering an appropriately-sized replacement, you can remove the offending seal and re-fit the new one. Make sure to follow the instructions given, and test the seal by opening and closing your door: it should close tightly, easily and without letting in any draughts.

Is uPVC safe?

UPVC is a rigid, chemically inert and inflexible material. It has high tensile and compressive strength, resists corrosion and decays extremely slowly. As a building material, it’s extremely practical.

uPVC meets UK safety regulations for building materials and has therefore undergone thorough testing to ensure maximum safety and high quality. However, please do remember to recycle your uPVC door properly once you have replaced it, as it cannot be burned (or thrown into landfill) in the same way as a plain wooden door can.

How much does a new uPVC door cost?

The price of uPVC doors depends on different factors. A standard or simple design for your uPVC door can cut your costs, while a rustic stable or cottage-style doors can come at a slight mark-up.

The size of a door usually dictates its price: if you have a relatively wide space (i.e. too broad for a single door) you’ll likely need to fit side panels, which will cost more. If you choose a door which is taller than our standard size (6 feet 6 inches), then you can also expect to pay more, if only for the extra material.

How long are uPVC doors guaranteed for?

All our uPVC doors come guaranteed for 10 years, although they should last even longer if they’re properly maintained and treated with due care. We provide a guarantee with our uPVC doors both because we care about the quality of our products and to assure you of the safety of our doors — we believe they should provide security, beauty and function to your home for at least 10 years.

Some uPVC doors may have a slightly shorter lifespan – those with a woodgrain appearance can be less weather resistant in the long term and might need replacing sooner. For further information on our guarantee, contact us today.

Don’t just take our word for it!

Our suppliers conform to strictly controlled and independently monitored Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001, to ensure that everything is done correctly and according to best practise.

Our windows are tested independently by British Standards for security, weather tightness and strength performance. This means that periodically, we have to send them to independent test houses, in order to be tested to destruction.
